Big Little Lies star Zoe Kravitz must be celebrating right now as she has been roped in to play Catwoman, in Matt Reeves’ up and coming movie “The Batman.”
Kravitz will star opposite Robert Pattinson who will play the role of Batman.
The role was narrowed down between Kravitz, Zazie Beetz of “Atlanta,” “Deadpool 2” and “Joker,” “Baby Driver’s” Eiza Gonzalez and Oscar winner Alicia Vikander. Zoe ended up winning the role even though there are some scheduling issues with her other movie, “Fantastic Beasts.”
The pre-production for the Batman movie is expected to begin this summer. Although no official start date for filming has been announced as of now, Variety has reported that filming could begin in late 2019 or early 2020. The Batman has a June 25, 2021 release date.
Reeves, who made the last two Planet of the Apes sequels, took over “Batman” obligations from Ben Affleck in January 2017. Affleck last plated the role of Batman in the Justicec League movie that received a lot of criticism and that allowed Reeves to pick his very own Bruce Wayne. Dylan Clark worked with Reeves on The Planet of the Apes will direct the Batman movie.
Kravitz is having a great time as the second season of HBO’s “Big Little Lies,” which broadcast its finale in July received a lot of good reviews. She will also star in the Hulu series “High Fidelity” releasing later this year.
Anne Hathaway was the last actor to play the role of Catwoman in 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” The other stars who have played the character are Michelle Pfeiffer who played the role in 1992’s “Batman Returns.” Catwoman also had a standalone movie of her own in 2004, in which Halle Berry played the main role.
