Now that we’ve been able to sleep knowing the Night King and Army of the Dead perished, we have many questions. Number one: Where the hell did Bran Stark warg to during the battle? As per plan, Bran was positioned under the Weirwood Tree to lure the Night King (who knows his location because he marked him).
At one point, Bran turns to Theon Greyjoy (RIP) who is protecting him and says, “I’m going to go now.” He wargs into ravens that fly overhead and spots the Night King, who at that point we hadn’t seen, riding a dragon forthcoming Winterfell. The intention of all this is vague, though. Why did he warg? Where did the birds go? Here are a couple of theories from fans on reddit.
Bran was just luring the Night King.
Again, this was the plan the whole time, but one user Seoul_Surfer theorized, “I wonder if the Night King can only track him when he’s warging or something like that so he was making sure the NK would come to him.” Another user dejadechingar presumed, “He placed himself in an open space and sent out the ravens to let him know he was watching.“
Other fans like RoscoeSantangelo wrote that he “was just keeping an eye on Night King’s whereabouts. He stopped his warg right when NK showed up to him.“
Bran was “recording” memory of the Battle of Winterfell.
Bran is paralyzed, so he couldn’t watch what was happening in battle. Maybe he wanted to catch a literal bird’s eye view? “I thought Bran was RECORDING what was going on. He uses the ravens to watch history to keep a log of it,” mgir768 wrote.
PhrotoReddit shared this theory, explaining “He is living memory. So he was watching the episode like us, recording and remembering. For all we know, the whole series is us looking through Bran’s eyes.“
TheWayIam313 (hilariously) recommended that is all BS because, “He’s not a VHS player, he doesn’t need to record it. If it happened, he can go back and watch it.“

Bran actually left Winterfell.
“I thought he was going to fly around watching the battle. But it looked like he flew right over the battle, over Winterfell, and beyond,” a user wrote. “I think he was up to something that is beyond our ability to predict.“
While we wait for answers, let’s enjoy some more memes about Bran doing nothing as the major battle in Game of Thrones history went on:
