Good news, Jason Momoa Fans! And also great news for the fans of the DC universe, because it’s been reported that a sequel to the highly-famous Aquaman is happening.
After the movie became the first in the DC Extended Universe – DC’s equivalent to Marvel’s incredibly successful MCU, the Marvel Cinematic Universe – to earn $1 billion at the worldwide box office, it’s simple to perceive why the studios might want the dream team behind the first film to make a follow-up.
And sure enough, sources have told Deadline that there’s only one director wanted by studio bosses: James Wan, who helmed the first movie. But, the entertainment news outlet also claims Wan won’t come back until he sets his eyes on a script – which, you’d have to presume, will need to be pretty good.
Deadline explains that Warner Bros. is at present trying to ‘court’ Wan into returning to the franchise, while sources revealed the online news site that the recent plan in discussion is for him to oversee the sequel’s progress and selection of writers, before making a decision on whether to direct.
But things are still open to question- without a script or confirmed director; there isn’t actually much Aquaman 2 action yet.
Obviously, none of this has stopped the movie’s actor Jason Momoa from expressing his opinion on what he’d like to see in a sequel.
In an interview with Collider, Momoa was asked which other DC character he’d like to see in a second movie, and he said: “I think Wonder Woman would be pretty rad. Flash and Wonder Woman would be my first two. I don’t want to pick one, so I’ll pick two.”
In the first movie Momoa plays Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman – the half-human, half-Atlantean true inheritor to the throne of Atlantis.
